Champions League Final moved to Paris from St Petersburg

Champions League Final moved to Paris from St Petersburg

The CL final will take place on May 28 at the Stade de France; Russian and Ukrainian clubs and national teams competing in UEFA competitions will play home matches at neutral venues; and Manchester United will end their commercial partnership with Russian state airline Aeroflot following the invasion of Ukraine.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, UEFA has rescheduled the Champions League final from St Petersburg to Paris on May 28.

The UEFA executive committee met in an emergency meeting on Friday and agreed to shift the showpiece from the 68,000-seat Gazprom Arena in Vladimir Putin’s hometown to the Stade de France.
European football’s governing body is coming under increasing pressure to cut ties with key sponsor Gazprom, the Russian state-owned energy company.

UEFA’s executive committee also said Russian and Ukrainian clubs and national teams competing in UEFA competitions will be required to play their home matches at neutral venues until further notice

This will have an impact on Spartak Moscow in the Europa League, where they were drawn alongside RB Leipzig in Friday’s draw, as well as Russia and Ukraine in the 2022-23 Nations League, which will begin in June.
